Benghazi – Colonel Ahmed Daw Al-Mismari leads the Documentation and Information Office. He works for the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Agency. The agency released its statistics for 2025. It recorded 1,136 cases. These cases involved 1,796 defendants. The total financial value of seized items reached 220,583,600 Libyan Dinars.
Al-Mismari spoke to the Libyan News Agency. He explained the breakdown of registered cases. 704 cases involved trafficking. 382 cases related to drug abuse. 50 cases concerned smuggling. He also categorized cases by the type of seized substance. 769 cases involved hashish. 306 cases were for hallucinogenic and psychotropic pills. 11 cases concerned cocaine. 50 cases were related to local and imported alcoholic beverages.
Al-Mismari further detailed the seized quantities in 2025. This included 6,488.557 kilograms of hashish. 14 kilograms of bango. 1,885,223 hallucinogenic and psychotropic pills were seized. The seized amount of cocaine was 68.416 kilograms. Additionally, 129,862.1 liters of local alcohol were confiscated. 774.250 liters of imported alcohol were also seized.
Regarding the defendants’ classification, the statistics showed involvement of 1,545 Libyans. 199 Arabs were implicated. 52 foreigners were also involved. Among all defendants, 1,779 were males. 17 defendants were females.
Al-Mismari explained the financial value of the seized items. One kilogram of hashish is valued at LYD 15,000. The total value of seized hashish was LYD 97,328,295. Hallucinogenic pills were valued at LYD 35 per pill. Their total value reached LYD 65,982,805.
The financial value of cocaine was estimated at LYD 350 per gram. Its total value amounted to LYD 23,645,600. Local alcohol was valued at LYD 250 per liter. Its estimated total value was LYD 32,465,525. Imported alcohol was valued at LYD 1,500 per liter. Its value totaled LYD 1,161,375.
The financial value percentages of seizures show hashish topping the list. Hashish accounted for 44.12 percent of the total value. Hallucinogenic pills followed at 29.91 percent. Locally produced alcohol comprised 14.72 percent. Cocaine represented 10.72 percent. Finally, imported alcohol made up 0.53 percent. These percentages indicate that hashish and hallucinogenic pills combined account for over 74 percent. This is of the total financial value of all seized items.
