Tripoli – The National Oil Corporation (NOC), in cooperation with its affiliated companies, successfully reduced natural gas flaring. They achieved a reduction of approximately 100 million cubic feet per day in 2025. This was accomplished through the implementation of strategic projects. These projects aim to maximize gas utilization. They also work to minimize environmental emissions.
These initiatives involved several oil companies. Sirte Oil Company for Production and Manufacturing of Oil and Gas was a prominent participant. Three major projects were carried out there. One project involved pumping Al-Hatiba field condensates into a low-pressure line. This significantly reduced gas flaring. Another project diverted and pumped about 60 million cubic feet per day. This gas moved from Al-Lahib and Al-Ragouba fields to the coastal network. It is now utilized instead of being flared. The third project rehabilitated the gas separation system at Al-Lahib field. This system separates approximately 12 million cubic feet per day. The separated gas is then used for gas lift operations within the field.
Al-Sarir Oil Operations Company implemented technical modifications. These process approximately 25 million cubic feet of gas daily. Waha Oil Company also successfully reduced flaring. They cut about 20 million cubic feet per day at the North Al-Duffa field. This was achieved by operating and maintaining a gas compressor.
The NOC stated in a press release that these measures enhanced operational efficiency. They also boosted the utilization of national resources. Gas emissions were reduced. The corporation affirmed its commitment to global best practices. This includes sustainability and clean energy fields.
For 2026, the NOC aims for a further reduction in flaring. They target cutting about 120 million cubic feet per day. The corporation plans to achieve near-zero flaring by 2030. This is part of a clear action plan. The plan includes expanding environmental projects. It also involves investing in innovative technologies. These efforts will reduce gas waste. They will also improve resource utilization efficiency.
