The UN Mission welcomes mediation initiatives to resolve the constitutional judiciary dispute

Tripoli – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed all mediation efforts. These efforts are made by Libyan parties. They aim to address the ongoing constitutional judiciary dispute. UNSMIL affirmed its support for any initiatives. These initiatives seek consensual legal solutions. These solutions must preserve the judiciary’s unity and independence. This includes an initiative to form a mediation committee. The committee will comprise elite Libyan legal experts.

The Mission explained the proposed mediation committee’s purpose. It aims to provide practical options. These options ensure the continuity of constitutional oversight. They also preserve the judiciary’s pivotal role. The judiciary is a fundamental pillar of the Libyan state. UNSMIL stressed the need to respect judicial independence. Judicial unity must also be respected. This is crucial when addressing this sensitive issue.

UNSMIL revealed details in a press statement. The statement was published on its official page. The mediation committee consists of Retired Judge Hussein Al-Bouaishi. Dr. Al-Koni Aboudah is also a member. Retired Judge Al-Mabrouk Al-Fakhri is on the committee. Lawyer Essam Al-Mawi completes the team. The committee members possess extensive legal and judicial experience. This experience spans many decades. They have contributed to Libya’s judicial and legal systems.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) reaffirmed its commitment. It will support the mediation committee. UNSMIL will assist its efforts in performing its tasks. It will work to create suitable conditions. This aims to reach a consensual solution to the dispute. This will help preserve the judiciary’s unity. It will also ensure consistency in judicial practices. This applies to judicial rulings across the country.

The Mission considers preserving judicial unity and independence extremely important. It has direct implications for Libyan citizens’ lives. It also impacts the path to stability. This is vital for building a state of law and institutions.

The Mission called on all concerned parties. They should cooperate constructively with the mediation committee. National interest should take precedence. This will ensure the initiative’s success. It will also achieve its desired objectives.
