Umm Ar-Rizam – The “Plant a Tree” initiative launched in Umm Ar-Rizam municipality. It is implemented by the National Agency for Youth Volunteer Efforts. The goal is to instill a culture of volunteering. It also aims to enhance environmental awareness among citizens. Young people are a particular focus.
Volunteer leader Adel Ahmed Al-Awami affirmed this. He is the director of the National Agency for Youth Volunteer Efforts, Greater Benghazi branch. He stated the “Plant a Tree” initiative aims to solidify the concept of volunteerism. It seeks to increase green spaces within the local community. It also promotes environmental awareness among citizens, especially youth.
Al-Awami noted the initiative’s implementation followed an official request. This request came from the National Agency’s office in Umm Ar-Rizam. Seedlings were provided and sent to the relevant office. This facilitated the start of the planting campaign.
He explained that the initiative’s success is not just about planting. It includes monitoring irrigation and seedling care. This ensures their sustainability. It also aims for a tangible long-term environmental impact.
He added that the campaign’s launch coincided with a significant anniversary. It marked the 33rd anniversary of establishing volunteer work. This occurred on February 13, 1993. This symbolic step reflects the importance of volunteerism. It highlights its role in serving the community.
Al-Awami clarified that the initiative is ongoing. Seedlings are being distributed to agency offices. These are within the Greater Benghazi area. The goal is to expand participation. It also aims to enhance the presence of environmental initiatives. He stressed continuous efforts to ensure the initiative’s continuity. This will achieve its objectives. These include supporting the environment and fostering a culture of volunteering among youth.
