UN Special Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, said she met with representatives of the Amazigh Supreme Council, who noted the marginalization of their community in the political process and within state institutions.
“Today, I met with representatives of the Amazigh Supreme Council, including the mayors of Kabow, Yefrin, and Qal’a, who noted the marginalization of their community in the political process and within state institutions,” Williams tweeted on Tuesday.
“They also called for inclusion in the constitutional process moving forward and highlighted cases of Amazigh who were extra-judicially detained by hybrid security forces and armed groups,” she added.
“I reiterated the critical importance of consensus and inclusivity in the current complicated political environment in Libya and highlighted that the best way forward to meet the demands of the 2.8 million Libyans who registered to vote is through free, credible elections on a sound constitutional basis with consensually-produced electoral laws,” UN adviser pointed out.
