Benghazi – The Libyan Organization for the Rights of Persons with Visual Disabilities affirmed the right of blind people. This right includes access to education and knowledge. It is a fundamental pillar for full societal integration. It empowers visually impaired individuals. They can fully pursue their educational and professional lives.
Human rights activist Sami Al-Terkawi is a member of the organization. He told the Libyan News Agency that education is a constitutional right for everyone. This right is without discrimination. He called on authorities to adopt a clear national policy for blind education. This policy must be sustainable. It should ensure full integration into the educational process. It must move beyond individual or charitable initiatives.
Al-Terkawi noted that Braille is more than a reading and writing tool. It symbolizes intellectual liberation. It also represents social integration. He urged support for blind individuals. He encouraged them to pursue knowledge. They should believe in their ability to build their future. They can also serve their nation.
This affirmation coincided with World Braille Day. This day falls on January 4 each year. It aims to highlight the importance of empowering visually impaired people. They should access education and knowledge services. This access must be equal to others.
