Member of the House of Representatives Aisha al-Tablagi stated that the “Hawari” crime has sounded the alarm about family disputes turning into tragedies for which the innocent pay the price. In exclusive statements to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, she emphasized that dealing with this phenomenon requires simultaneous legislative and societal action.
A Call to Review Legislation and Toughen Penalties
Al-Tablagi explained that the Social Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives has called for a review of relevant laws and stricter penalties to ensure the deterrence of domestic crimes and enhance protection for the most vulnerable members within the family.
Analyzing Motives to Prevent Recurrence
She stressed the need to study the causes behind these incidents to prevent their recurrence, whether they relate to deep-seated family disputes, a tendency to seek revenge against the mother by killing the children, or are the result of drug addiction and its accompanying behavioral disorders. She affirmed that a precise understanding of the motives is a prerequisite for any effective prevention policy.
