Outgoing Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, has praised the bravery of the driver of the fuel truck that caught fire at a gas station in the city of Benghazi Tuesday morning.
Dbeibeh said on Facebook: “ We thank God very much for the safety of the residents of the area adjacent to the Malti gas station in Benghazi.
The Prime Minister added, “I deeply appreciate the courage of the fuel truck driver, Abdulla al-Majbri, who considered the priority of protecting civilians more important than protecting himself.”
He continued: “The Ministry of Local Government was assigned to inventory and evaluate the damages to compensate the owners.”
It is noteworthy that al-Fuwaihat neighborhood in Benghazi witnessed Tuesday morning a fire at a fuel transport truck while refueling al-Malti gas station.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck caught fire when it was unloading fuel at the station, prompting its driver, Abdulla al-Majbari, to start the truck and move it away from the station.
Witnesses added that when al-Majbari got out of the truck, the truck was engulfed in flames spreading from its sides, as it reached some cars parked on the side of the road.
The driver’s decision to take the truck out of the gas station came out of fear that the situation would worsen as the fires would reach the ground fuel tanks, in addition to the fact that the station is in a densely populated area
