Berlin – German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul warned that war with Iran could plunge the entire world into a major crisis. Wadephul spoke during a joint press conference with French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot in Berlin on Wednesday. He stated there is a real risk of escalation. This could plunge the entire world into a major crisis beyond just the region.
Wadephul noted that certain war risks remain insufficiently studied. This includes the potential for a global food crisis. Fertilizer supplies from the Middle East are critically important. Any prolonged disruption would threaten a food crisis across large parts of Africa. This raises concerns for affected populations and resulting refugee flows.
Wadephul expressed a desire for leadership change in Iran toward a more humane system. However, he questioned achieving this goal through military force. He stated that he does not believe this can be achieved militarily from the outside.
