Tripoli – The Public Prosecution Office has ordered the detention of a former civil registrar in Ain Mara. A current civil registry employee was also detained. They are accused of forging family registration data. This forgery allowed an Egyptian national and seven of his family members to obtain grants. These grants are specifically designated for Libyan families.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office reported the two defendants conspired with an Egyptian citizen. They falsified family registration data for him. This enabled him and seven family members to receive grants allocated to Libyan families. They also gained other citizenship-derived rights. The office explained that the investigation confirmed the charges against the defendants. This probe was conducted under the jurisdiction of the Derna Court of Appeal.
Consequently, both defendants were referred to trial. They remain in pre-trial detention. The office also directed the arrest of the individual who benefited from the forgery. Furthermore, it ordered the suspension of administrative documents based on the fraudulent entries.
