Ministers of Interior and Transportation Launch Al-Zawiya International Commercial Airport Project

Zawiya – Minister of Interior Major General Issam Abu Zariba and Minister of Transportation Engineer Abd al-Hakim al-Ghaziwi inaugurated, this Wednesday evening, the Zawiya International Commercial Airport project in the Ibn Shu’ayb area, south of the city of Zawiya, in the presence of a number of members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, and a group of elders and dignitaries from the western region.

The Minister of Interior stressed in his speech that the project is a pioneering national step that reflects the unity of Libya and the strength of its people, opens wide horizons for investment, enhances commercial movement, and provides real job opportunities, as it also supports the economy and consolidates stability in the western region and the country in general.

He pointed out that the project serves all Libyans and establishes an advanced infrastructure to keep pace with the future of the state and development, stressing the government’s commitment to turning it into a tangible reality according to the highest international standards and under the direct supervision of the state.

The minister emphasized that the achievement represents a strong message from the people of Zawiya and the western region, calling for unifying the word and working as one for the public interest and a better future for all of Libya.

It is noteworthy that the head of the Libyan Government Council had issued last November, Resolution No. 415 of 2025, approving the establishment of an air port in the city of Zawiya under the name “Zawiya Commercial Airport,” to be an important lever for the infrastructure, facilitate logistical movement, and support industrial and commercial activity in the western region.
