The head of the Political Affairs Committee, Mohamed Muezeb, opined that the demands to exclude military personnel and dual nationals are not motivated by exclusion, but rather to ensure the integrity and transparency of the elections. He considered the UN envoy’s blaming of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State alone for obstructing the roadmap an “unfair simplification” that ignores the complexities of the scene and the role of other active forces, in a statement to the newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat.
Muezeb asked: Why hasn’t the mission initiated a discussion with Parliament regarding its failure to officially engage so far with what the High Council of State has issued on election laws? And why hasn’t it called for the formation of a joint committee between them to handle the file, as happened with the sovereign positions file?
