The leader of Libya’s Presidential Council arrived today in Tobruk, which will be the starting point of a tour across other cities based in the country’s eastern region of Cyrenaica, the council announced.
The purpose of today’s visit to Turkey by Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush is to try to “smooth the corners” with the Turks regarding the withdrawal of their forces ahead of upcoming ‘Libya Stability’ conference on October 21 which is hosted by Tripoli, Italian news agency Nova reports.
Libya’s Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush will arrive in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Thursday, October 14, according to the Turkish foreign ministry.
Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh held talks on Wednesday with Presidential Council Chairman Mohamed al-Menfi about the latest dispute surrounding a number of Cyrenaica-based government officials who recently disavowed Dbeibeh.
Security forces in Tripoli used “unnecessary and disproportionate” force to detain migrants, shooting dead some of those trying to escape, the UN human rights office has said as it demanded an inquiry into the violence.
There is no clear intention of the Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) to hold the elections on their scheduled date, Dec. 24 this year, said GNU Deputy Interior Minister, Faraj Aqeim.
