A news report published by the English-language Italian website “Itamilradar” revealed that the US military conducted a new surveillance mission in the Mediterranean Sea near the Libyan coast during the past few days.
The report explained that a “Bombardier Artemis 2” aircraft belonging to US forces flew in the central Mediterranean off the Libyan coast, after taking off from Romania and passing through Greek airspace, before conducting a long surveillance loop west of the capital, Tripoli.
The report indicated that this type of aircraft is used for airborne multi-mission reconnaissance and targeting tasks, as part of intelligence and surveillance duties. The aircraft is equipped with advanced sensors and electronic intelligence equipment that allow it to track ground activity, communications, and radar emissions.
The report noted that conducting the mission over North Africa confirms the strategic importance of the region, given Libya’s vital location and the complexity of its political and military situation, making it a primary focus of international surveillance and intelligence activities in the Mediterranean.
