Janzour – The School of Legal Sciences at the Libyan Academy for Graduate Studies announced a national initiative. This initiative aims to preserve the unity of Libya’s judiciary. It also seeks to enhance its independence. This effort responds to current challenges facing the judicial system.
The announcement occurred during a national scientific forum. Ramadan Al-Madani, President of the Libyan Academy for Graduate Studies, attended. Abdulfattah Agniyah, Director of the Legal Department at the Ministry of Higher Education, also participated. Majdi Al-Shabbani, Dean of the School of Legal Sciences, was present. Heads of departments from the school attended. Several deans of law faculties, faculty members, and legal specialists were also there.
The forum saw significant attendance from law faculty representatives and faculty members. They came from various Libyan cities. These included law faculties from universities in Tripoli, Al-Zawiya, Zuwara, Sabratha, Sorman, Zliten, Nalut, Al-Rahibat, Al-Zintan, Gharyan, Misrata, Zliten, Al-Marqab, Bani Walid, Wadi Al-Shatti, Sabha, Fezzan, Al-Zaytouna, Gulf of Sidra, and Sirte. This broad participation reflected a wide academic and national consensus. The consensus emphasized the importance of preserving judicial unity.
The Libyan Academy, through its media office, stated its understanding. It recognized the serious phase the Libyan state is currently undergoing. It noted unprecedented developments affecting the judiciary’s structure and unity. The judiciary is a fundamental pillar of the rule of law. It is also the ultimate guarantor of Libya’s stability.
The initiative aims to maintain judicial unity. It seeks to prevent any internal division. It empowers the judiciary to resolve its crisis internally. Additionally, it prepares for consensual and evidence-based legal reform.
The initiative focuses on several key areas. These include preserving the Supreme Court’s judicial authority. It also seeks to fortify the Public Prosecution’s independence. Another goal is establishing a transitional higher judicial body based on seniority. Furthermore, it aims to prepare a consensual legal solution for the judicial crisis.
The School of Legal Sciences affirmed that this initiative aligns with the Libyan Academy for Graduate Studies’ vision. This vision strengthens the academy’s national role. It promotes active contributions to supporting state institutions. It also establishes the principles of the rule of law.
Attendees stressed the vital role of academic institutions. These institutions provide sound legal solutions. Such solutions support the unity of the state and its institutions. They also enhance the academy’s position. The academy is a leading scientific institution. It serves society and aids in decision-making.
