Tripoli – The Ministry of Social Affairs in the Government of National Unity announced last Friday the launch of a new initiative for effective community development, in cooperation with the Libyan Society for Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems, following the signing of a cooperation agreement between the two parties aimed at integrating spatial technologies in the design and implementation of social programs and policies.
According to a ministry statement, the cooperation is based on providing specialized technical consultations and scientific support in the fields of remote sensing and spatial analysis, in addition to exchanging spatial data and conducting geographic field studies to help identify actual needs and improve the targeting mechanisms for social services.
The agreement also includes organizing workshops and training programs to build technical capacities within the ministry in the field of geographic information systems and supporting technologies.
This cooperation, according to the statement, will contribute to enhancing planning, coordination, and follow-up processes by providing precise tools for identifying population density centers, mapping vulnerability, and developing effective response pathways in emergency situations.
It also includes preparing research and applied projects that will improve the quality of government decisions and ensure the optimal use of available resources.
The ministry emphasized that this partnership represents a pivotal tool for supporting evidence-based governance and improving the accuracy of targeting the most needy groups, especially displaced persons and vulnerable families, by providing maps and data that help design more effective social programs that are responsive to real needs.
