The resolution to extend the mandate of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is expected to be adopted on Monday, revealed Mona Juul, Norway’s ambassador to the UN.
Libya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Taher al-Sunni, affirmed that conflicting internal interests and the continuation of foreign interference in Libyan affairs prevented the holding of elections on December 24.

The U.N. Secretary General’s Special Adviser for Libya, Stephanie Williams, will speak today at a public session of the Security Council dedicated to discussing developments in the North African country, announced Libya’s representative to the U.N.
The Security Council stressed the importance of an inclusive and consultative electoral process in Libya with the wide acceptance of Libyan stakeholders and condemned any efforts to undermine the process including through efforts to stoke violence or sow disinformation or inhibit voter participation.

Assistant Secretary-General and UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Coordinator, Raisedon Zenenga, reiterated UNSMIL’s commitment to supporting Libyans in achieving elections that are “timely, credible and inclusive, in line with the Libyan political road map and relevant Security Council resolutions, and which will yield stability for Libya.”

Britain will draft a new Security Council resolution on Libya to “help the Libyan people to move forward”, Gareth Bayley, the UK’s ambassador to Egypt, told Egyptian press on Sunday.
The Security Council unanimously agreed on Wednesday to extend the mandate of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) until the end of September.
The Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Abdel Hamid Dbiebeh, affirmed that no foreign force or mercenaries will remain anywhere in Libya.

The United Nations Security Council concluded its ministerial-level meeting on Libya today by demanding the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries out of Libya and expressing support to the Libyan authorities charged with leading the country up to the national elections in December 24.
