Former Libyan Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha held a meeting on Sunday with members of the Turkish Center for Middle Eastern Studies to discuss the “important role that Turkey played in achieving military balance, ceasefire efforts, and the return of political life” in Libya.
Khaled al-Meshri, chairman of Libya’s High Council of State, arrived in Ankara on Thursday, where he met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
Turkey is establishing a naval base in Zuwara in western Libya, and it has five other air and naval bases in the country, confirmed member of Defense and National Security Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), Ali Al-Tikbali.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday that he does not rule out the possibility of signing a deal with the Taliban, an internally designated terrorist group, similar to a deal he signed with Libya’s former Government of National Accord (GNA).
Aqila Saleh, Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), said the Government of National Unity (GNU) can freeze its agreements with Turkey because the legislative authority has not approved them.
