New York – The United Kingdom’s representative to the UN Security Council warned that the current situation in Libya is unsustainable. The Libyan people have waited too long for stability. The British representative spoke at a UN Security Council meeting on Libya. He urged all Libyan parties to seriously and effectively participate in the political process.
This process is guided by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). He affirmed the UK’s strong support for UNSMIL. He welcomed the launch of the structured dialogue. He also welcomed the meetings of its four tracks. These tracks cover governance, economy, security, and national reconciliation. Human rights issues are also included.
The British representative expressed regret. Some Libyan stakeholders are not participating in the UN-led process. He warned that this increases the risk of instability in the country.
