Jeddah – Palestinian news agency “WAFA” won the first edition of the Media Professionalism Award. The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states launched this award. It recognizes WAFA’s resilience. The agency continues its daily news reporting despite ongoing challenges. It also faces continuous violations.
Mohammed bin Abdulrab Al-Yami, the Union’s Director General, affirmed the award’s purpose. It aims to support and encourage news agencies in member states. It promotes values of responsibility and credibility. It also combats all forms of hatred and Islamophobia.
Al-Yami noted that WAFA’s win reflects the Union’s appreciation. This recognizes the agency’s efforts in providing professional and reliable media service. This comes despite continuous attempts to restrict the freedom of Palestinian journalists. These attempts prevent them from conveying the truth. They also aim to stop the exposure of daily violations against the Palestinian people.
He added that the award is an important step. It strengthens independent and responsible media. It creates a supportive environment for news agencies in member states. This enables them to face challenges. It ensures the transparent and accurate dissemination of information. This contributes to raising cultural and media awareness internationally.
