Tunis – Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Ali Nafti met yesterday in the capital, Tunis, with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Hanna Tetteh.
During the meeting, the two sides held extensive consultations on the latest developments in the Libyan political track and ways to support UN efforts aimed at advancing the political process in Libya.
According to a publication by the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Nafti reiterated during the meeting Tunisia’s firm position in support of UNSMIL’s efforts to advance the political process in Libya, praising in this context the endeavors undertaken by the UN mission to revitalize the UN roadmap with its various pillars.
Nafti also commended the role of the United Nations in realizing the aspirations of the Libyan people for a comprehensive political settlement that guarantees Libya’s territorial integrity and preserves its national resources. He emphasized the importance of “structured dialogue” as a fundamental pillar for implementing the roadmap, welcoming the convening of the third meeting of the 4+4 mini-dialogue mechanism held in Tunis on June 4, 2026.
The Minister reaffirmed Tunisia’s enduring commitment to the tripartite consultation mechanism with neighboring countries, considering it an effective framework for coordination and constructive dialogue among sisterly nations. He described it as a reflection of their relentless determination to support the Libyan political track under the guaranteeing UN umbrella, which would lead to a comprehensive and lasting political solution that preserves Libya’s unity and its people’s sovereignty away from any foreign interference.
For her part, Hanna Tetteh expressed her appreciation for the continuous support provided by the Republic of Tunisia to the UN mission’s efforts in Libya, praising its balanced and constructive positions and the pivotal role it plays in encouraging dialogue and fostering consensus among the various Libyan parties.
She also affirmed her keenness to continue coordination and consultation with Tunisia and other regional and international partners to advance the implementation of the UN roadmap. Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of intensifying efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive and lasting political settlement that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people and contributes to consolidating security and stability at the national and regional levels.
