Niamey – The U.S. Embassy in Niger announced on Friday the arrival of military equipment provided by the United States to Niger, in a move the embassy described as U.S. support to enhance the capabilities of the Nigerien Armed Forces in combating terrorism and organized crime.
Washington had previously suspended a large portion of its development aid and military cooperation with Niger following a coup in July 2023 that brought a military junta to power in Niamey.
The U.S. Embassy in Niamey stated that the aid shipment includes nine containers of military equipment valued at approximately $2.3 million.
