The Women and Children’s Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives has strongly condemned the incident of a father killing his children in the city of Benghazi, and the subsequent feelings of sorrow and anger that have spread throughout the community, considering the incident a new alarm bell for the growing phenomenon of domestic violence in the country.
In its statement, the committee emphasized the necessity of urgent action to put a definitive end to these crimes and to hold their perpetrators accountable according to the law. It expressed its sincere condolences to the victims’ family, praying that the children be enveloped in His mercy and their families be granted patience and solace.
The statement stressed the importance of protecting children from all forms of violence by raising the level of societal awareness of its danger, intensifying awareness campaigns about its familial and social risks, in addition to activating laws and legislation for child protection.
The committee called for strengthening the role of psychologists and social workers in educational institutions, supporting the role of mosques in family awareness, and enhancing cooperation between security and judicial bodies to develop plans to curb this phenomenon and apply deterrent penalties against the perpetrators.
The committee concluded its statement by calling on all members of society and concerned institutions to intensify efforts to protect children, ensure a safe environment for them, and prevent the recurrence of such tragedies in the future, stressing that the protection of childhood is a shared national and humanitarian responsibility.
