For the first time in Libya – The Ministry of Health of the Libyan Government launches the Pharmacovigilance System

Benghazi – The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in the Libyan Government, Dr. Abdulsalam Aqila, announced the launch of a pharmacovigilance system. This system is the first of its kind in Libya. Preparations are also underway for the second training course for pharmaceutical factory inspectors. This initiative aims to enhance inspection and control capabilities. It will ensure the quality of pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The Undersecretary of Health made this announcement. He was participating in a workshop organized by the Ministry’s Pharmacy Department. The workshop focused on pharmacovigilance. It highlighted its importance in enhancing patient safety. Attendees included members of the House of Representatives. Representatives from regulatory and enforcement bodies were also present. Ministry department directors and College of Medical Technology representatives attended. Various health specialists and stakeholders also participated.

The Undersecretary of Health affirmed the importance of pharmacovigilance in his speech. He stated it is a fundamental pillar of modern health systems. It plays a crucial role in monitoring adverse drug reactions. It helps update pharmaceutical information. It also limits drug interactions. This system protects patients. It guides decisions on withdrawing or restricting non-compliant drugs.

The Ministry of Health will implement several important steps. These include initiating registration for pharmaceutical factories. Registration for various drug products will also begin. A continuous pharmaceutical education program will launch. This program will be in cooperation with the Pharmacists Syndicate. Accredited university pharmacy colleges will also collaborate.
