A new agreement on air services between Libya and Italy was signed today in Tripoli by the civil aviation authorities of both countries.
The agreement “defines the framework for the recovery of commercial air traffic and implements the European clauses in terms of safety, security and recognition of carrier designation, without limitation, and fair competition,” according to a statement by the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC).
Signed by the President of the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority Mohamed Shlebik and his Italian counterpart Pierluigi Di Palma at the headquarters of the Libyan Ministry of Transportation, the agreement aims to “make trade relations between the two countries even more profitable and strengthens bilateral cooperation between the two partners by providing the opportunity to implement long-term economic collaboration programs,” as per the statement of ENAC.
“I share the thoughts of the Italian ambassador to Tripoli, Gianluca Alberini, who in recent days has highlighted the importance of the historic presence of Italian companies,” Di Palma was quoted as saying by the Italian authority.
“With the agreement signed today, new opportunities are also opening up from the point of view of civil aviation which strengthen connections and which are the result of the work carried out, on the indication of the Government, by ENAC supported by AISE [the Italian External Intelligence and Security Agency] and the Italian Embassy in Tripoli,” he added.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Libya’s Deputy Minister of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation, Khaled Sewese, and ENAC’s Deputy Central Director of Technical Supervision, Claudio Eminente.
