Benghazi – The Defense and National Security Committee of the House of Representatives discussed a number of priority security issues with the Security Institutions Division of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), in the presence of the committee’s chairman, Talal Al-Mihoub, and a number of its members.
The meeting, held at the House of Representatives’ headquarters in Benghazi, was convened to review the outcomes of previous meetings, assess the current security situation in Tripoli and the western region, and discuss the issue of border security and coordination mechanisms between Libyan authorities and the United Nations.
The meeting also addressed a plan to tackle illegal immigration and its impact on internal security and neighboring countries, in addition to discussing the role of the Joint Military Commission (5+5) and overcoming the obstacles facing its work.
The committee noted the importance of developing security legislation to align with local and regional developments, emphasizing the necessity of issuing a special law for military justice to enhance the rule of law and ensure national security stability.
The meeting reflects the House of Representatives’ commitment to strengthening international cooperation to face security challenges and achieve stability in Libya.
