Oil Minister of Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh’s outgoing government, Mohamed Aoun, suggested to Turkey’s Ambassador to Libya, Kenan Yilmaz, signing a memorandum of understanding in the field of oil and gas as the first step to start cooperation between Libya and Turkey in the field.
Aoun’s proposal came, according to the ministry’s statement, during his meeting with the Turkish ambassador to Libya and his accompanying delegation at the ministry’s office in Tripoli on Sunday.
The ministry said the meeting reviewed “ways to find a mechanism for joint cooperation between Turkish companies and the Libyan oil and gas sector in various fields such as renewable energies, marine seismic surveys, spare parts and maintenance for current equipment and pipelines.”
The Turkish ambassador touched on “some other issues such as oil export closures and their impact on the Libyan economy, in addition to joint cooperation with Malta and Greece regarding marine discoveries.”
During the meeting, Aoun stressed that the ministry is making every effort to restore production and discuss the parties causing the oil closure, stressing at the conclusion of his speech that “the first step to start joint cooperation is to sign a memorandum of understanding between Libya and Turkey in the field of oil and gas.”
