Fathi Bashagha, the Libyan prime minister designated by the House of Representatives, will attend an upcoming parliamentary session scheduled for Tuesday, 20 September, in Benghazi, according to multiple press reports.
During a session last Thursday, the House lawmakers decided to summon Bashagha to question him over his government’s latest accomplishments and discuss the challenges that hinders its work.
According to a report by Ean Libya news website, Bashagha will conduct an overseas trip following the session, which he will kick it off with a visit to Egypt.
The 60-year-old former interior minister was appointed as interim leader by the parliament last February. The decision was made to challenge the leadership Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, who the parliament blames for the failure to hold national elections in December 2021.
Bashagha made several abortive attempts to enter Tripoli and take officer there. However, he was met with armed resistance from pro-Dbeibeh armed groups, which led him to settle his government in Sirte.
