Libya’s House of Representatives will discuss on Monday, October 11, the adjustments requested by the High National Election Commission regarding the elections legislations, HNEC chairman Imad al-Sayeh told the press today.
Mohamed Sowan, the former leader of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Justice and Construction Party, called on all Libyan parties to reject the parliamentary elections law, which was recently issued by the House of Representative, because it is not based on party-list proportional representation.
Libya’s House of Representatives announced on Tuesday that it finalized the legislations, which would serve as legal framework for the elections on December 24.
“No individual or institution should have veto power over critical electoral legislation,” stated the U.S. Special Envoy to Libya Richard Norland today. “Libya’s institutions and their leaders must trust the voters to decide who should lead the country,” he added.
Libya’s House of Representatives and High Council of State has called on the international community to provide independent observers to monitor the upcoming general elections on December 24.
